The film enjoyed moderate success as well as considerably good reviews and was distributed by Buena Vista Pictures, now simply called Walt Disney Studios. You can also try to find the original Japanese film about the incident in question, which is done in a less dramatic, more documentary-like style. They’re loyal, playful and affectionate — and once bonded with a human companion, they form a connection that’s hard to break. Seeing that relationship play out on screen can be both entertaining and emotional.

She may not seem like a perfect fit for the job, but the two must find a way to work together so Daniel can pass the K-9 exam in time. Thisheartwarming film, which also stars Scott Wolf, is based on a true story.
Victoria and her father, Stéphane , move to the French Alps after Victoria’s mother dies. They both are struggling with their grief until a neighbor gives Victoria an orphaned pup named Mystére — which turns out to actually be a wolf cub. Their bond helps the young girl heal, but the wound could easily be reopened when Victoria is asked to return her companion to the wild. Just as Angus and Yellow begin to give up hope, a plane flies overhead and spots them on the tree. The pilot informs the rescue teams of his discovery, and a rescue helicopter is dispatched to pick up the boy and dog. Angus is relieved when the helicopter arrives to pick him and Yellow up.
Never had the chance to see the original black and white film, which I believe is much closer to James Street's book, but this is a good movie in its own right, with a great opening sequence, and a terrific cast. The script could be better, but definitely worth seeing--and easily to find on DVD. The imaginative use of mixed sound and music gives a heightened sense of reality. Even though I saw it on a relatively small screen, it has much of the emotional impact of IMAX. Of course yellow dog steals the show since she is so sincere. This is not a cute film, but a rather scary tale of getting lost, survival and rescue.
Though we don't see enough of the St. Bernard who plays Buck in this loose adaptation of the Jack London novel, Clark Gable really makes us believe he and the big dog are soul mates. It captures many of the best moments from the book, but the book, it must be said, is vastly superior. 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls in his house equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway. A bit True Life Adventure, but still a satisfying adaptation of a fine book. A bulldog, charmed by a kitten, tries to keep her hidden from his human guardian.
